Inspiration shoud always be a fuzzy thing

Right now the work I’m making is often monochromatic, exploring light and shadow, composition and contrast within a greyscale palette. This is especially true of my latest audio driven generative work: https://makersplace.com/brendandawes/the-transitive-properties-of-music/

Much of this has to do with memories of things I’ve seen — and remembered – over many years, a lot which is my love of black and white films, be they Hitchcock, David Lynch or the brilliant Night of The Hunter directed by Charles Laughton. 

Yet these are not exact copies derived from crystal clear memories. Instead they are fuzzy and imperfect and serve to join my own thoughts on aesthetics, my likes and dislikes. That combination is how I think inspiration works. Without the fuzziness, without the joining of other memories, equally clouded, it's just copying.
