That Was The Week That Was — 14th July 2019

This week saw Lisa and myself take an impromptu break to the city of Copenhagen. We're both fans of Danish design so we were both looking forward to visiting the city that is consistently voted one of the happiest places to live.

The Bauhaus exhibition at the Design Museum was right up our street so to speak, showing the history and continuing influence of the German art school all these years on.

As we took a break for a coffee I took a phone call from Marie at Vitsoe confirming the delivery date for my first 606 shelving system. After many years of lusting after the 606, I decided to take the plunge and order my first system, as I needed new shelving to house the Produced for Use products and have an area that would make it easier to package up orders.

Weirdly Dieter Rams — creator of the 606 — would be a theme of this trip. Not only was his work in the design museum, but on entering a junk shop in the city I quickly spotted a Rams designed T2 lighter on a shelf. 150 Krona later I held this beautiful object in my hands — a nice bargain and a nice memento of the trip.

Food was as good as we thought it would be. The second night we ate at Puk — one of the oldest places in Denmark dating from the 1700s. Food was really good. Rustic but very Danish. The last night we ate at Vaest and this was something else. Contemporary but wow — one of the best meals I've ever had over six fabulous courses.

Of course when you work for yourself you still have to be available for clients when you're away, though luckily having only just signed the contract for my next piece of work, the kick-off conference call was in the diary for when I got back on the Thursday. The call went really well — great group of people who really want to make great work for this project, which is always lovely to see.

Now I need to dig in and get to work on it.
