Don’t you have Jake’s number any more? ;)

    Looking forward to the book.

Well Jake is still my man for Mac problems!

As of yesterday I’ve just seen the final chapter laid out. Looks fantastic. As this will be it from me in a printed sense for about another 5 years, I’ve poured a lot of stuff into this book. This is the book I’ve always wanted to make. Observations, anecdotes, bits of code and loads of photographs taken over the years. Inside you’ll see pictures of cheese, next to origami swans left on trains, next to dynamically generated art. I talk about Elvis, scratching Super-8 film negative, tea stains on magazines, Mariah Carey, experiences aboard airplanes, mathematics, Play-Doh and a whole lot more.

I hope everyone will love it as much as I’ve enjoyed working on it.

It’s a couple of months later than first anticipated but I’m glad to say my new book is in the last stages of production, ready for an end of August release. Have to say I’m really really happy with how it’s turned out. Part of the reason for the delay was due to that fact that both myself and my publisher have really crafted the work - several pieces have been ditched where we felt they didn’t make the grade for what we all wanted this book to be. We also revisited the layout several times to get the feel of this book just right. The final book is looking like it’s going to be over 330 pages - and really beautiful pages too.

The process of writing this new book has actually been a really pleasurable one, mainly due to Camille Peri, my fabulous editor. A good editor on a project like this is worth their weight in gold. The worst thing you can do, in any creative pursuit is to surround yourself with “yes men” - what you need is people to tell you “that doesn’t work” when it really matters. Conversely good editors can see chinks of light in the writing and then encourage you to expand various thoughts. It was this kind of feedback from Camille that really helped me produce something I’m incredibly proud of.
