I’m currently working on a series of “toys” that I’m calling “Not Produced For Use” which is my little response to what at times seems like the plumbers of the web taking over and telling us how things should and shouldn’t be. Essentially they will be alternate views of what’s already out there - twisted objects of interaction with bits of fun sticking out.
The first one of these is a kind of RSS news manipulation for brendandawes.com (the ablility to use any RSS feed is coming soon) that I call RssTypeToy. This little gizmo takes the headlines from my site and then allows you to draw, by dragging the mouse left to right the headlines across the page. In doing so, and by altering the speed of your mouse, you create a typographic/sonic expression of the current news feed. It doesn’t link anywhere. It doesn’t do anything. It’s useless. But then again what is useless and what is useful? It’s a waste of time that’s a just a bit of fun.
You can download RssTypeToy for Mac and Windows
