Last Tuesday 19th Feb I had the pleasure of attending the launch party for Design and the Elastic Mind at MoMA where Cinema Redux is one of the 200 featured exhibits in this amazing new exhibition.
I thought there may be a few hundred people at the launch night - turned out there was more like a few thousand! As the exhibition was on the sixth floor the staff had to stagger people going up because of fire risk. Because of that I don’t think I really took in the exhibition properly - there was just so many people that it was hard to see everything, but it made for an electric atmosphere. Seeing the redux version of Vertigo 18 feet high was great, and seeing people’s reaction to it was for me what it was all about. Hopefully, as I’m back in New York next week I can get to go again when there’s slightly less people and take it all in.
My favorite review of the show so far has to be this quote from The New York Times - “Design and the Elastic mind” is the most uplifting show MoMA’s architecture and design department has presented since the museum reopened in 2004. Thanks to its imaginative breadth, we can begin to dream again.
