…yeah…a mate of mine got “bluejacked” at the football last week…so it’s definitley the start of a new craze amongst the mobile obssesed within our society…hopefully the novelty will wear off and the craze will pass…

…reminds me of when i was a kid and we used to take the electrical spark bit out of electric lighters and go in big shops like HMV or the Arndale and when shoppers had their hands on a long metal railing we’d stand further down the end and click a spark on the railing and watch in amusement as the unsuspecting shoppers all got a shock at the same time : )

…I suppose bluejacking is just a modern day version of letting of a stink bomb…

    …mind you…the guy in your photo looks like a terrorist to me : )…I don’t know…students eh!…what are they like…

I have just spent the evening in the trafford centre doing my xmas shopping. While wandering around in a shopping for shoppings sake daze i remembered the image on this site and i thought i’d have a go at bluejacking with my trusty t610.

In HMV i found five connections first go :) . however, none of them would accept a phonecam shot :( i then tried and found loads of devices in a coffee shop, dixons, game and a few mobile phone shops.

All my attempts had no success(images and phone book contacts). does anybody know what i was doing wrong?

Does your phone have to be set a certain way before you are bluejackable?

Hi Chris. It all depends on how the other person has their phone set up. They can usually set it so it’s visible but only accept data from paired devices for instance, so it won’t accept bluejack attempts. I have mine set up without any kind of security in place - reckless but more fun! I’ve been able to send photos and text to anonymous Bluetooth phones without any problem.

Well, I tried this here in the NYC and it worked brilliantly! I sent out “Have a Coke and a smile this Christmas”. Not that I work for them… it just seemed funny to make it out like an advert and see the reaction. It is really great if you can send something about a shop nearby, like a proximity server or something…

I’ve still not been bluejacked. Blue jacked a few people, but I’ve never stuck around for the response :)

its cos hyou are doing it wrong. make a phone contact, the name of the contact is where you will put your message like “nice coke?” or “youve been bluejacked” etc.
use the email section further down to put your name or web add or email address. save contact and now go to manage contact (t610 this is based on) choose the contact you have just made and choose to send, send via bluetooth. if there is bluetooth enabled products in the area then they will start to be listed, choose your contact and off it should go to them.

Last night I became a victim of the latest mobile phone craze - bluejacking. I got gripped on the train home. Just checked my S55 for any messages and there was this icon on screen saying I had been sent something. So I opened it up and this is what I got:

To be honest I think this guy was sat opposite me - I think I recognised his eyes! No doubt this will become a bit of a trend - sending stuff to Bluetooth enabled phones, maybe even becoming like collectables - “Have you been bluejacked by this guy/girl?”. Sort of like a modern day version of the mark of Zorro.
