Keith Peters looks to have a very exciting project on the go called Brevity, which he describes as Processing for Flash. That sort of thing gets my attention. It’s going to be open source too so expect people to be all over this when it’s released.
Having recently bought a Nikon D50 I downloaded the public beta of Adobe’s Lightroom - and if this is the beta I can’t wait for the full release. The interface reminds of something Kai Krause and the team at MetaCreations used to cook up back in the day. Talking of Kai Krause, when is he going to emerge from his castle in Germany and show us what he and his mysterious team have been working on?
I also spotted what looks like a cool app called nodebox. Apparently it uses Python to create real-time graphics complete with PDF export goodness. Will be exploring this in the coming months so stay tuned.
I’ve recently been working on some projects that use sound to create real-time print ready graphics and in order for me to route the sound from iTunes into Processing I’ve been using the brilliant, free, Soundflower from Cycling 74. No more rigging up my iPod through the line-in socket for me.
Edward Tufte has a new book coming out called Beautiful Evidence - It’s already on my must buy book list.
And finally some friends of mine have a band called The Permissive Society. Last year they won best new Manchester band and they’re tipped to be the next big thing. Well worth seeing them live if you ever get chance.
