As regular readers will know I’ve always been fascinated with visualizing massive amounts of data, and creating new objects from many small parts, such as the Cinema Redux project.

Recently I saw a really wonderful example of the beauty of the massive made from the small when I visited decodeunicode.org. Now a site that catalogs Unicode might not be your idea of fun, but not only is the site design so lovely and simple, the poster they’ve created is stunning.

So when Nodebox released the new web library I thought there might be an opportunity to create something new, based on doing something visual with ALL the text from this site. I thought about creating some crazy graph listing all the links etc but then I thought I just wanted to keep it very very simple, as there is more beauty in the very pure and simple. So what I came up with was a poster I’m calling Blah Blah Blah that very simply displays ALL the text from this site in one single view.

After several iterations, including colour versions, I decided on this black and white version, ending up with an image 9449 x 13937 pixels!

Now as the web library can only be used for non-commercial purposes, I’ve made a a 23″ x 35″ poster that you can buy from Cafepress for $17.99 (plus p+p). I’m not making any profit on these posters - these are produced at cost.
