I found this fantastic Flash server object for Max MSP that allows you to communicate between Flash and MAX. This has a lot of potential - transferring real-time audio spectrum data to Flash or video motion tracking into Flash to name but a few.
But of course you would be running two seperate applications - a Flash one and a Max one. But then I thought - hang on - what about using a swf posing as a QuickTime mov inside Max? It would effectively be communicating with itself inside the same movie. QuickTime 6 supports Flash 5 actionscript so all should be good to go.
Or so I thought.
While indeed the actionscript does work inside QuickTime inside Max, XML sockets, the vital bit of communication between Flash and Max DOES NOT WORK IN QUICKTIME 6! It’s a bug. Apple know about it but it aint fixed. Maybe it’ll get fixed sometime soon. Maybe it won’t. Until then there’s still a lot of cool stuff that could be done with Flash and Max talking to one another.

So… help them fix it!
