Over the last week or so I’ve been playing around with Flash and the fabbyFlickr using the brilliant Flickr API wrapper by Kelvin Luck. The first few things I’ve built are just simple picture viewers, all be it with a little bit of a twist.

The lightbox is just a simple port of the picture viewer I created for johndawespictures.com, creating negative images out of the latest photos from my Flickr photo stream.

But my fave is the one that now sits on the homepage. The idea here was to show the latest 20 photos and do it in a super simple way without any text, click heres, loading bars and the like. I also wanted to make it fun to use and to encourage rummaging around. Messiness is good. Oh - and it uses the Drag Slide Fade 2.0 Class Library extensively. You can also find in the downloads a very simple example of how to get going with Flickr and Flash.

Straight picture viewers are the first thing everyone probably makes with the flickr api, but there’s a load of scope when you really start to think about what’s possible with an ever changing vista of photography.
