After a very short test period with a few of my friends I’ve decided to release a free to use, customisable version of my Flickr viewing widget that’s featured on the homepage of brendandawes.com.
Scattr is a Flash swf you can put on your blog, website, myspace page or wherever and have it display the x latest pictures from your Flickr account. No coding knowledge required. You can resize it and change the background colour as you see fit. The whole idea of Scattr is there’s practically no extra interface elements - more signal less noise. Anyway, download it, read the simple instructions and let me know what you do with it.

nifty. a few initial thoughts:
- would be great if i could pass the location of settings.xml as a PARAM in the OBJECT and attribute in the EMBED? this way, one could keep the settings file in a central location (in the same domain) and have instances of scattr on all pages referencing back to this single file
- taking the previous idea further: you could just pass the details you’re setting in the xml directly as PARAMs - unless you’re worried about people nicking the API key, but then again having it in a known location/filename only makes it marginally safer, if at all
- would love to have some easing in/out of the motion, a bit of rubber-band type inertia when moving the polas around; potentially, this could be governed by another setting/parameter?
on that last point, i assume you’ve already seen the videos for the bumptop prototype? http://honeybrown.ca/Pubs/BumpTop.html
