I’ve been waiting for chumby forever! I remember first hearing about it back in July or August of last year… are they really any closer to the release?

Somehow I got my hands on a chumby and it’s very very cool. Sort of a frustrating as it’s Flashlite and 32M of RAM, but still–cool. Especially with the accelerometer.

I noticed you also have a slimdevices squeezebox (which I love)… I made a little prototype that controls the slimsever and grabs album art from amazon. If I had the patience I’d add lyrics and maybe a slide show of related images… so many possibilities. Check it out (along with the video of my magic 8 app):

Got my Chumby today - woohoo. Philip - the first thing I want to make is a Squeezbox controller but I want to create an interface to visually choose an album, rather than just showing the album cover of the currently playing album. But that is very cool in itself and shows the possibilties!

Yesterday I was doing a little bit of research on the director Mike Figgis and chanced upon a lovely series of films on You Tube centered around the fabulous Moleskine notebooks, one of which features Mike Figgis’ notes. I just the love the seemingly personal nature of the films and the view of the hands adding to the intimate nature of the piece.

Other things I’ve come across include Chumby, a soon to be released open source hackable hardware device that can run Flash. Lots of great possibilties for this little touch screen device. VVVV is a free Windows based visual “mulitpurpose toolkit” a bit like Max/MSP for creating visual interaction pieces. Meanwhile if you’re into mashing up data you might want to check out Dapper - which allows you to create an API for any website quickly and easily. Great idea. Jungledisk is an online storage system powered by Amazon S3 which I’ve been using for a few weeks and seems pretty solid, though does a have a bit of a clunky interface during setup - but it’s still in beta.

Oh and finally you may have seen some of my Nodebox created stuff on Flickr. Well I’ve put together a little explanation of the iteration process I went through to create these pieces.
