100 Feelings Felt

I remember when I was a kid I loved to make short films on Super 8 in the back garden with my friends. Mostly they were sci-fi type epics and even had cutting edge special effects - i.e. me taking a scalpel to the film negative frame by frame to make laser beam effects. Part of that process was sending the film off to Kodak and waiting about a week for the film to come back from the lab. It was always exciting unwrapping the package and spooling it onto the projector to see how it all turned out.

Of course I love the immediacy of digital - I really wouldn’t want to wait a week to be able to upload my photos to Flickr for instance. But I kind of miss the thrill of opening up a parcel to see what’s inside.

So I was thinking about this in conjunction with the very transient nature of the web. Things come and go all too quickly, much like everything in our lives now. But what if there was a way to freeze a moment in time and get something to hold in your hands as a representation of that moment, that normally is throwaway and entirely digital?

That’s why I created 100 Feelings Felt. Through the use of the wonderful We Feel Fine API and the Moo API you can click a button a receive a box of 100 feelings (as Moo mini cards) captured from around the web on that very day. And I left out the ability to preview each card, so you get a nice unexpected surprise delivered to your door. All frozen in time forever more.

I’m hoping people might use it to capture the feelings of people on what they deem to be important moments, such as the US Election, the birth of a child, the moment you fell in love or whatever…
