Distorted - Don’t Look Now

In between watching Road to Perdition (which is bloody superb) and Southern Comfort on Saturday, I created a little piece of software using processing that processes every frame of a DVD and distorts them into weird twisted images. The film I used to do it was the eerie 1973 classic “Don’t Look Now” starring Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie. The result was 162 images representing the entire film.

Those images would look great on a long sheet of canvas.

Its a bit arty but the concept of being able to walk through a film appeals to me.

It would also be cool to see how a black and white renders out.

A long canvas would be cool. I’m thinking of doing “The Man Who Wasn’t There” for the next one - like you said to see how black and white would turn out. Watch this space!

Like it i like it, although it does remind me of the stuff Mike Cina has done.

Have a look at some of the works of art by julian opie. Big is good.

Brilliant Brendan, Couldn’t have happened to a more appropriate film. How ’bout next and back buttons so you can step through the images in sequence?

Thanks Jim. Yeah I’ll look into the left and right buttons. I’ve got some more DVD processed stuff on it’s way… stay tuned.

Here’s my fave image from the experiment.

Fantastic. A great idea to use Don’t Look Now - the colour red in the film signifies tension and these moments come out really well in the stretched image as sudden distinct bands of red.

lol @ usibilty tip from coudal

(esp after reading the bar likert ratings card post first - sweet irony)

interesting images though, personally (being so uncultured) I’d like to see how Transformers the movie pans out :-)
