Lightbox

I’ve just updated the site I put together as a tribute to some of my dad’s work as a photographer over at JohnDawesPictures.com.

Well when I say update what I really mean is I’ve spent a bit more time on the photo viewing application I’ve built to display his photos. The “Lightbox” engine is now a small Flash file combined with a php file that auto creates the thumbnails. I’ve also tidied up the interface and added a nice little sorting function that uses a treemap algorithm to display all the negatives on the lightbox - no matter how many there are. They always fit. The whole thing is completely dynamic meaning I can point the Lightbox at any directory containing photos and it will just work.

Here’s a direct link to the Lightbox.

Hey there,

Nice lightbox app, but noticed the thumbs stack over the top of each other - which you may or may not want. On sites like my small company portfolio (http://www.werkhaus.co.nz) I generate a semi random grid of points (rows and cols with nested for next loop, with random() offsets added/subtracted to each point). This means that clips only overlap infrequently or slightly (depending on random offset values). Email me if you’re interested in the source - you’re doing some pretty intense things with bitmap data, so this might be enough of a tip to go by….
