Retro Flash Drive

As technology gets more advanced and things gets smaller sometimes I think are we losing those lovely touchy feely qualities of the past? Yeah sure things were heavy and clunky but you really felt you had hold of something.

Take USB Flash drives - brilliant in every way not least of which is their miniature size. But occassionaly I yearn for stuff that was oversized and just made you want to reach out and touch it. So I took an old Atari 2600 cartridge and put inside a 128MB Flash drive! It’s incredibly stupid, and is the polar opposite of what Flash drives were invented for, but I love it!

now all you need to do is convert an iMac to fit inside an old atari like…aeh…this guy here http://www.mymac.com/showarticle.php?id=1928 did. can’t get more retro than that.

by the way: what typeface did you use for the sticker?

very cool! You should also check out this incredible portable Atari VCS

The font was ITC Bauhaus - the same one that’s used on the actual cartridges. Beware some Atari fan sites that reckon they’re got Atari fonts - on closer inspection they’re not the real deal!

That is seriously cool man! How long did it take you to put that together?

Cheers. To be honest it took about 2 hours - but that included cleaning the original label off, making a new label, finding the font etc.

nice bren, very nice. I have an old 2600 (with wood trim effect) spare if you want to carve it up for anything!

It’s pure beauty, I want one!
